Under the direction of Andrew Rindfleisch, the CHROMA Composition Institute welcomes up to seven collegiate and young professional composers for a full schedule of concerts, workshops, masterclasses, and individual lessons.

Program Highlights

  • All events (lessons, rehearsals, master classes, lectures and recitals) are held at the Bartók Béla Music Institute, in the heart of Bartók Square
  • Master classes are held at the beautiful rococo style Bartók Hall
  • Students have access to ample practice rooms at the Bartók Institute
  • Participants Receive:
  • Performances of two of their compositions as part of the festival concert series
  • Two composition lessons
  • Opportunity to present their music in seminar to the festival composition studio
  • Participation in scheduled composition masterclasses and workshops
  • All concerts are performed at historical performance venues
  • Explore and immerse yourself in the centuries old history, culture and people of Miskolc, Hungary.

The Institute emphasizes creative exploration, practical craft, and professional development in a supportive international environment.

Eligibility

  • Collegiate and young professionals aged 18 and over

Application and Tuition

  • Application deadline: Friday, May 15, 2026
  • Application fee: $100 USD
  • Late application fee: $140 USD (for applications submitted after May 15, 2026)
  • Tuition: Double Occupancy: $3,095 USD (includes hotel room and all meals); Single Occupancy: $3,395 USD (includes hotel room and all meals)
  • For accepted students, the application fee will be applied toward tuition. Application fees are non-refundable for applicants who are not accepted.

Portfolio Requirements

Festival performances of compositions by participants will include one solo piece (solo violin, solo clarinet, or solo piano) and one duo piece (any duo combination drawn from violin, clarinet and piano).

Applicants should submit two original scores in PDF format. Submitted works should be examples of your best chamber works for any instrumentation. Selected applicants will be asked to provide existing and/or compose new works to be performed on festival concerts for the available instrumentations.
